A great book to me is one that fundamentally changes how I think about and understand a subject. The Principles of Product Development Flow is one of those greats. My copy is totally chock full of pencil notes highlighting insights. The book consists of a rigorous and well-organized analysis of all the factors and dynamics affecting performance of product development processes. There are many graphs and formulas but they are simple and intuitive and help to reinforce the principles. It’s certainly not the kind of book you would ever be able to digest in one or a few sittings; you need to consume it a bit at a time and reflect on what you just read. But if you do press through to the end, you’ll discover many ways to improve product development processes in your organization while developing your ability to avoid previously-overlooked pitfalls hampering performance.
